Hi everyone! Spring is slowly but surely coming to an end and our semester is wrapping up. Here is what has been going on at Collin FOCUS this past month!
Unite SMU
Towards the beginning of the month I got to go with some students to a campus revival at SMU called Unite put together by a group intentional about reaching college students to support our SMU FOCUS ministry. It was a really special night of worship and recognizing our need for Jesus alongside so many students from across the DFW area! Please be praying that seeds planted that night will bear fruit! Here is a picture I took from the evening:
Core
It is hard to believe, but Gio and I will be hosting our last core of the year together this coming Monday! It has been such a blessing getting to have these guys around on Monday nights and I am so grateful for the year we've gotten to spend together. We finished our study through Jonah and will "land the plane" with one last core to encourage one another before the summer and next school year.
Thank you so much for praying for us throughout the year. I am so proud of the way these guys have taken initiative in their faith and have sought out Christ week after week this year. Please be praying for them as they move on from this season to new campuses and new cores next semester - that they would stand strong in their walk with Jesus and wouldn't soon forget all we have gotten to talk about this year!
Here is a picture from a combined study we did with the girls' Monday core for Easter and a collage of pictures from our core this year!
TNF
Our last TNF of the year will be this week as well! We have not let up off of the gas as the end of the semester approaches - our current sermon series has probably been my favorite so far. We have been talking about how we as disciples should think about more contentious topics like dating, conflict, our minds and bodies, and commitment, and I think students have really been internalizing the message each week! Over the summer our Thursday nights will be all of the FOCUS campuses worshipping together at a church in the area, so please be praying for a smooth transition and that God would continue to show up and show off in our large group time together! Here are a couple pictures from TNFs this month:
FOJs!
Getting to meet up and study the Bible one-on-one with students has to be one of my favorite parts of my job! As the year comes to a close, so have many of the studies I have gotten to do with the guys in core. It is bitter-sweet for me in some ways - I will miss getting to meet up with people, but I am so pumped for how God will use these guys to do mighty things for His Kingdom! Here are some pictures with guys I've gotten to study with this year (from left to right - Cole, Eric, and Daniel):
Thank you!
I have been feeling pretty sentimental about the year coming to a close and I can't help but be grateful that the prayers you have prayed throughout the year have been answered in mighty ways. It is an honor and a privilege to get to be a part of God's rescue mission at Collin College, and I can't say thank you enough for being a part of it! We recently finished reading through the New Testament as part of our apprentice classes, and Revelation 21:5-7 is a passage I have given a lot of thought:
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
Revelation 21:5-7
Seeing God work on campus every day has left me excited for His coming - and I know there are so many students and young adults out there who still need to hear about their loving Father!
Please continue to pray for us as we put a bow on the 2024-2025 school year and transition into summer. I get to travel with a group of our students who will potentially serve as leaders in our ministry next year to Washington state May 14-24 for SICM (Student Institute of Campus Ministry), a weeklong conference where we will do a deep dive into some of the principles and methods for reaching our campus, so please pray for safe travels and a meaningful week! I am excited to share how it goes when I write to you next! We will also be spending a lot of time as a staff in the coming months debriefing the school year and figuring out what changes to make for next year, so please be praying that God would give us wisdom and guide our decision making. Here is one last Collin staff photo for this school year:
To close, thank you so much again for your prayers and support, and thank you for taking the time to read this update! As always, a browser version of this blog email and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/ and attached is Juan's testimony, a student at UTD! (Go Comets!) Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like more information or have any questions. I would love to get to hear from you!
Blessings,
Mick
Mick, what a blessing to read about your service and soak it in. In a me-me world you are bucking the trend and being an example of how to serve our God by serving others. Love your heart. :)
