August 2025 Ministry Update!

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying the back-to-school season. Here is an update of what we have been up to at Collin FOCUS. This blog update might look a little different - I am aiming for something a little more digestible and a little less drawn out - so bear with me!

Leader Retreat

Before the start of the school year, our Collin staff and student leaders spent a weekend in Canton, Texas preparing for Welcome week and gearing up for the coming semester. It was a really sweet time for getting to know some of the students I hadn't gotten to interact with too much last year and recentering on God before returning to campus. I am excited for what the year has in store for the Collin team and what all God will use these students to do! Please be praying for our student leaders - they have committed to leading Bible studies and being a part of all of our large group events in addition to class, work, and everything else they have going on in their lives. Here is a picture from our retreat:

Welcome Week and TNF!

Students returned to campus at the end of the month and we have hit the ground running! Our staff spent the first week of school tabling and meeting new students at the four Collin campuses we are planted on in McKinney, Wylie, Frisco, and Plano. We met a ton of students - both Christian and non-Christians alike - and I am praying they will be interested in learning more and sticking around! Our Welcome Week culminated with our first Thursday Night Fellowship of the year and cores (what we call our small group Bible studies) will start this week. Please be praying for the students we have met this week and for how God is going to move this year. Here are some photos from Welcome Week and TNF:

Thank you - and some prayer requests!

As always, thank you so much for supporting what God is doing on these campuses. It is such a blessing seeing the way you all care about reaching college students and that you are willing to empower me to be a part of it. A verse that has been on my heart this past month is Elijah's prayer in 1 Kings 18:36-37:

“Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

I am excited to share with these students that the same God is in Dallas, Texas and He is turning their hearts back to Himself, too!

A couple of things to keep specifically in your prayers: Our weekly Bible studies will be starting up this week. I will be leading one Monday at 6:00pm in Plano and one Wednesday at 7:00pm in Wylie. Please be praying that students will join us and will be active participants! We have also been struggling to find a location for TNF - our large group gathering between all four of our Collin campuses. The Plano campus has been under construction and will be for the rest of the school year, so this past week we held TNF in a classroom at the McKinney campus. As much as we value hosting TNF at the school, McKinney is pretty far north and isn't too accessible to a majority of students from other campuses. Please pray for clarity and guidance from the Spirit as we make a decision on where to have our large group event each week moving forward.

As always, thank you so much again for partnering with me! If this is your first time receiving this email, a browser version of this blog and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/. Attached below is a picture of our FOCUS staff from across the DFW area and Kathryn's testimony, a student from our UTD ministry!

Blessings,
Mick
