Hi everyone! I hope you're enjoying a break from the heat and the beginning of the holiday season. I am excited to share with you what has been going on at Collin College!
Fall Retreat!
The weekend of the 18th and 19th we hosted a 24-hour retreat for students to get away and focus on Jesus. We had some large group games, worship, sermons, a dance party, and a lot of activities around camp and it wound up being a really special event! The theme for the weekend was looking at different aspects of our relationship with God - God as our friend, God as our father, and God as our Lord. Fall retreat is always a highlight of the year for me - I love the intentionality of leaving the distractions behind and getting away from campus to put God first! It was also a great way to spend more casual time with students getting to know them and seeing them open up a lot! Here are some pictures from the weekend (though I'll admit my photography skills could use some work)!
Core and FOJ
We are also moving full steam ahead with cores - and it has been a blast! We spent this month going through the book of James and it has been full of practical ways for us as disciples to live our faith out on campus in the way we use our tongues, the way we use our money, the way we use Scripture, and in the works of our living faith. It is so neat to have a front row seat to the work God is doing in the lives of these guys and I am blessed to be a part of His mission at Collin. Here are some core pics - one of our Monday core at Plano and one of the guys from our Wednesday core who could make it to Fall Retreat!

I have also been getting to meet with students on campus 1-on-1 to study the Bible and dive deeper into Scripture together. It has been a powerful way to meet students where they are at both physically and spiritually - they come from a wide range of backgrounds and include Christians and non-believers alike. I love seeing how God's word seems to land each time we meet, both in them and in me! Please be praying for the students I meet with weekly, including William (pictured below), Toby (pictured below William), Grant, Everett, Brayden, Troy, Trey, Bryson, and Emmanuel. I know God will keep doing powerful things in their lives!
Thank you!
As always, it is such a blessing having your support and seeing how God is using your generosity to touch a lot of lives at Collin. It is so neat to me that you would choose to invest in college students and that our God is faithful to see it through to completion! I got to speak on God as our friend at Fall Retreat and was moved by John 15:15 -
"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."
I think it is so cool that our God calls us friends, and then later goes on to call us to love one another in the same way He loves us. I have found that his verse shapes the way I do ministry but is also such a clear picture of your impact through FOCUS - that you have been a friend to these students in a way they can't see!
A quick prayer request: we are kicking off Keep FOCUS Growing (KFG), our big annual fundraising push to build up smaller ministries in our organization and to help cover non-staff expenses. Please be praying that God would provide! I have attached a graphic with more information if you would like to hear more or have any family and friends who may be interested in supporting our work on campuses. Thank you so much again for partnering with me! If this is your first time recieving this email, a browser version of this blog and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/. Attached below is Sarai's testimony, a student from our UTA ministry!
In Christ,
Mick
