November 2025 Ministry Update
Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have gotten to enjoy lots of quality time with loved ones and lots of good food. Here is a little bit oof what we have been up to at Collin FOCUS!
Pizza Theology!
Every semester FOCUS hosts Pizza Theology, a 5-hour event that serves as a college-level teaching on Scripture with an hour long break in between for some pizza. This month we had a guest speaker: Dr. Rikk Watts, a retired seminary professor and theologian share with us on the book of John. A lot of his talk emphasized keeping Scripture rooted in the history of the period in which it was written and stressed understanding Israel's history as we dive into Jesus's ministry. It was a fascinating seminar and it was encouraging to see our students take their faith seriously at a college level. Here are some pictures from the event!
It seems like God has really been moving in the hearts of our students in core this month. Through the beginning of the semester it was difficult to encourage guys to be consistent and to engage in discussions, but these past few weeks have been a lot different! We have spent time talking about some deeper topics like honoring God with our minds, what it looks like to honor God in our friendships, and having hearts of gratitude. Instead of blank stares we have gotten to share so much more of our stories and hear more of what students are going through, which has been a huge blessing! Instead of a week to week roll of the dice on who will show up, it has been a lot more consistent and guys have started to build stronger relationships with each other, too. God has really showed up, so thank you for praying diligently for us! Here are some shots of core (I promise a more encompassing shot of our Wednesday core in next month's update - I always forget to take one)!
TNF
TNF has always been a highlight of the week for me, but these last couple of months have been extra meaningful. Each of our staff spoke on different stories of Jesus in the Bible and why they were meaningful to us, and I have been so moved getting to hear how God has moved in the lives of my coworkers. It has been such a reminder to me that the Gospel is really good news and that the same Jesus the Gospels tell of is the Jesus at work in our lives today. I got to preach on Jesus raising Lazarus in John 11, a passage from Scripture very near and dear to my heart, and share with students about Micah's accident and how his death made me see Jesus in a whole new light. Here is a photo!
Thank you!
As I have been counting my blessings this past week, you all have topped the list. It is a testament to the goodness of our God that so many of you would be willing to invest in the lives of students in DFW by supporting campus ministry! I am so grateful for the work God has done here and I am excited to keep you posted on all He will do next semester! I love that I still stand in awe of how great Jesus is and I still can't express how thankful I am for each of you.
As I spent time in John 11 this past month I kept coming back to the words Jesus says to Martha:
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
- John 11:25-26
I am so glad that I get to share of a God who is the resurrection and the life, a Gpd who made a way through death to eternal life with Him, and a God who desperately wants His children to come back to Him. Getting to share Jesus with these students has been the honor of a lifetime.
One last note: we are wrapping up our Keep FOCUS Growing (KFG) fundraiser and still have about $50,000 in matching funds on the table! I have attached a graphic with more information if you would like to hear more or have any family and friends who may be interested in supporting our work on campuses, and if anyone you know would be interested in receiving these ministry updates, please let me know! Thank you so much again for partnering with me! If this is your first time receiving this email, a browser version of this blog and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/. Attached below is Aaron's testimony, a student from our SMU ministry!
Blessings,
Mick
