January Ministry Update

Hi everyone! I hope you have been staying warm amidst all of this crazy winter weather. Here is what we have been up to this semester at Collin FOCUS!

Winter Retreat

As a kickoff to the semester, FOCUS hosted a winter retreat for students across the DFW area. Over MLK weekend participants from all of the FOCUS ministries at each of our campuses gathered at Riverbend Retreat Center to spend time diving into God's Word, worshipping, hanging out, and for all kinds of camp activities. Our guest speaker was Marty Solomon, the host of the BEMA Podcast and the director of Impact Campus Ministries, an organization also dedicated to reaching college students. He shared with us over the book of Genesis from a uniquely Jewish perspective and pointed out so many neat things about the book! It was such a special experience getting to worship alongside over 700 college students and to watch them grow in their love for Christ. Here are some pics!

Outreach Week

We spent the first week of school meeting students at many of the Collin campuses in an effort to share more about our ministry and invite them into what God is doing! In an effort to try some new things, we put together a pizza lunch at the Wylie campus, an afternoon Bible study at the McKinney campus, and a Sip 'N' Paint event at the Frisco campus, all culminating with a grill-out before our first TNF of the semester. It was great to get to bless Collin students and we had lots of students come engage with us! Please be praying for us - that we wouldn't lose momentum through flu season and the winter storm that hit, and that the outreach initiatives we have been setting up for the remainder of the semester continue to go well. Here are some pics:

Thank you!

As many of you know, January marks a sentimental time in my life - the anniversary of my little brother Micah's accident. In many ways, his passing was a turning point in my faith and part of the reason I have felt called into campus ministry. Thank you so much for loving him and for praying for my family the last three years. I am so glad I get to share with students the great hope that I am going to see my little brother again in eternity! So even though I have probably shared this verse with you all before, here is Micah 6:8 -

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

If you would like to hear more or have any family and friends who may be interested in receiving these ministry updates, please let me know! Thank you so much again for partnering with me! If this is your first time receiving this email, a browser version of this blog and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/. Attached below is Ariel's testimony, a student from our UNT ministry!

Blessings,

Mick
