June 2026 Ministry Update

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying the summer. Here is what we have been up to at Collin FOCUS and beyond!

Summer TNF

Each Thursday for the months of June and July our students from FOCUS campuses all over DFW for a worship service. As a community college missionary, it is exciting for me to catch up with Collin alumni who now attend other universities and help current Collin students make connections at other schools where they may transfer. Summer can be a spiritually dry time for campus ministry (students don't have the same consistent schedule, many are not taking summer classes, and the structure of core and FOJ is not there), so seeing a couple hundred young adults excited about coming together to worship Jesus I find super encouraging! We have spent the summer going over maturity - how we as disciples should want to grow up in our faith. I am excited to see what fruit the summer bears come August! Here is a pic from a Summer TNF:

VBS

I was blessed to get to go back home and serve for a vacation Bible school at Cypress Bible Church the last week of June. Our theme for the week was "Fear Not!" based off of Isaiah 41:10 and I was a part of a teaching team walking students through the Biblical stories of Moses and the burning bush; Gideon' dwindling army; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the furnace; and Peter and John healing the lame man in Acts. It was a ton of fun and getting to volunteer alongside many of you was my favorite part. It lights a fire under me seeing children learning about God and seeking to love Him - I want them to have a campus ministry there when this next generation starts applying to colleges! Here are some pictures from the week:

Thank you - and a big prayer request

As always, thank you for your support in campus missions! Getting to share the Gospel with student on campus has been the blessing of a lifetime and it would not be possible without your support. In prepping for teaching at VBS, Peter's reply to the high priest touched my heart - what a blessing it is taking the mighty name of Jesus to Collin students who need Him!

"This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

- Acts 4:11-12

In the midst of all of the excitement, please keep my family in your prayers. June has also marked the passing of my grandmother, Yvonne Thurwalker ("Nana" to me). She was an amazing woman who shaped my faith and loved people really well. Thank you to the many of you who have reached out with thoughts and prayers - they have meant the world to me and my family. Please keep us in your prayers. Here is a link to her obituary and a picture of her!

Summer also marks a season of support raising for the work I get to do on campus - we fundraise a salary similar to overseas missionaries. I have been praying for God to continue to bring to mind family and friends who have a heart for college students that would be willing to partner with me. If you have people in your life who you think would be interested in hearing more about the Collin ministry, would you please let me know? I would love to connect and share about what God has been up to! Would you also please be in prayer that I would be able to hit my fundraising goal for this coming school year?

Thank you so much again for partnering with me! If this is your first time receiving this email, a browser version of this blog and the rest of the blog posts I have made this year are available at http://mick.mcafoose.anyfocus.org/. Attached below is Olivia's testimony, a student from our UTA ministry!

In Christ,

Mick
